The Mumbai Bombings

Mumbai Western Railways in India was attacked with bombings Tuesday July 11 2006. The area that was attacked was the financial capital of Mumbai. A series of 7 bombs over a period of 11 minutes.  209 people were killed and 714 injured.  According to Mumbai Police the attacks was carried out by Lashkar-e-Toiba and Student Islamic Movement of India. The firs bomb is told to have took place at 6:24 pm and the last at 6:35 pm. The bombs was pressure cookers that were placed on trains on the western suburban which is the backbone of the city’s transport network. According to some there had been warnings but place and time was not known. The effect of the bombings was that the Mumbai Airport was on high alert and the trains where first shut down but soon opened again. There were extra busses all over the city.



The bombings in Mumbai have been compared to the bombings in London 2005 and Madrid 2004. They were all a series of explosions in railways and all where well coordinated.
